William Liddell & Drucilla Cox Scott family

WILLIAM LIDDELL SCOTT s/o John & Mary Keith Scott  b. Mar 1823 Jackson (now Clay) co. Tenn. d. after 1901 prob. Adair co. Missouri  m. 25 Sept 1853 Pike co. Ill. Drucilla Cox   d/o Alexander & Thursa Breeden Cox  b. 1833 Mo. d. 1875 Dewitt co. Ill.  After Drucilla died, about 1881 (according to son Elijah's death certificate), William and Elijah (and probably daughter Thursa) moved to Knox co. Missouri.  In 1901, in a biography of John W. Hougham (his son-in-law), he was said to live in Adair co. Missouri, where Elijah lived in 1910.  5 children.

• Frances  b. 1854/5 Dewitt co. Ill.  m. 2 Apr 1874 Dewitt co. Ill.  John A. Broomfield  s/o William & Elizabeth Scott Brumfield  b. 23 May 1854 Pike co. Ill.; I lose track of John and Frances after 1882, at which point they lived in Dewitt county and had no children.  There was another John Brumfield from Ray co. Mo. who lived in California - this is not him; that John Brumfield lived in Ray county Missouri before his marriage in 1882, while our John was in Dewitt county Illinois.  One source said of John, "Left home and was never heard from again".
• Thursa  b. 1855/6 Dewitt co. Ill. d. after 1880, probably by 1900  m. _____ Smith, who died before 1880; Thursa was listed as "Thursey Smith", a widow, living with her father and brother in 1880, but there is no record of her marrying a man named Smith in Illinois.  She did NOT marry John Mewhinney, as was long thought; that was a woman named Thursa Crum.  There is no record of her marriage, of her husband's death, of any subsequent remarriage, or her death under the name of Smith - only the one census report.  She probably moved to Missouri with her father and brother in 1881.  No one named Thursa near her age and born in Illinois is in the 1900 census or thereafter.
• Mary Jane  b. 2 May 1858 Knox co. Mo.  d. 29 Sept 1937 Wapella township, Dewitt co. Ill.  m. 25 Apr 1878 John W. Hougham  s/o John S. & Samantha Atkinson Hougham  b. 15 Nov 1855 Illinois  d. 13 July 1928 Dewitt co. Ill.  No children.
• William Andrew  b. 22 Apr 1860 Dewitt co. Ill.  d. 5 Nov 1929 Dewitt co. Ill.  m/1. 21 Apr 1881 Dewitt co. Ill.  Hannah Ellen Bebout, who d. 19 Sept 1884, buried Heyworth cemetery, Randolph twp., McLean co. Ill., no children.  William m/2. 31 Dec 1885 Daviess co. Mo.  Nancy Ann Land  d/o James & Nancy Ann Scott Land (and granddaughter of Andrew C. & Sarah G. Scott) b. 17 Nov 1865 (mortuary records) or Dec 1866 (census) Daviess co. Mo.  d. 22 May 1933 Denver, Colorado (1643 Lawrence St. #322), buried Fairmount Cemetery.  William's obituary stated they lived in Denver, Colorado from about 1886 until shortly before William Andrew's death, but in fact they lived in Daviess co. Mo. until around 1906/7 when they moved to Hayes co. Nebraska, and lived there until about 1927, when they moved to Denver.  7 children, 2 died young.
• Elijah  b. 1 Nov 1864 Wapella twp., Dewitt co. Ill. d. 19 Apr 1946 Gibbs township, Adair co. Mo.  m. 1893 Tessie Still, d/o Charles & Adeline Richardson Still  b. 17 Jan 1872 Adair co. Mo.  d. 24 Aug 1934 Wilson twp.,  Adair co. Mo.  Elijah's death certificate indicates he lived in Missouri since 1881, so I assume that is when he and his father (and probably his sister Thursa) moved.  However, the picture linked above was taken about 1931, probably in Illinois (as it includes his sister Mary J. and his cousin John A. Scott, who both lived in Illinois).  7 children, 1 died young.
