"Other" John Scott family
John Scott b. before 1765, possibly in New York or England
d. after 1820 Indiana or Illinois. Shows in the 1810 census in Logan
county, Kentucky (12001-31010) and the 1820 census in Crawford county Indiana
(001102-01001). I assume those are the same John Scott because Edward
H. Hall, father of Mary Ann "Polly" Hall Scott (wife of Robert, below)
lived in Logan county himself before moving to Dubois county Indiana, and
that is where Polly married Robert Scott- so the connection from John Scott
to Logan county is through Robert Scott. If Robert is not
the son of this John, then John probably lived in another county in Kentucky
before coming to Indiana.
John's wife's name is unknown, but there was a John Scott who married
Jenny Davis 10 Feb 1808 Logan co. Ky., and there was no other John Scott
in the 1810 census for Logan county, so it seems likely that Jenny Davis
was born 1765-1775, died some time after 1820, and was not the mother of
the following children.
In the 1830 census, Robert Scott is living in Dubois co. Ind, very near
to Henry & Elizabeth Buckner, while the rest of the family (without
father John) is living in Vermillion co. Ill. Robert and his family
were in Bureau co. Ill in 1840 (and beyond), while John and Thomas and
their families, William C.'s widow and children, and Henry & Elizabeth
Buckner's son William C. Buckner are in Fulton co. Ill. in 1840 (and beyond).
John Scott himself seems to be the father of 8 children:
-
Robert b. ca. 1782-1787 North Carolina (1850 census)
d. 25 Oct 1858 Bureau co. Illinois buried Miller cemetery, Bureau
co. Ill. m. 9 Nov 1814 Logan co. Ky. Mary Ann "Polly" Hall
b. 1789/90 Wilkes co. Ga.? d. after 1850, probably Bureau co. Ill.
d/o Edward H. & Rachel Barnes Hall. Robert was granted 112 acres
on 30 Nov 1815 in Logan co. Ky., on the Elk fork of the Red River; the
only Scott in the 1800 census for Logan county is Elias Scott, who was
granted 100 acres on the Elk fork of the Red River on 30 Nov 1798, so Robert
might instead have been the son of Elias (or even that Elias was another,
older son of John Scott). Elias was mentioned in a trespassing summons,
Amos Balch vs. Elias Scott, case #299, Logan county, some time between
1796-1798. Robert & Mary Ann had 9 children:

Henry; by 1850 his widow was Jane M. _____, b. 1795/6 Virginia d.
1850-61 Illinois (Jane m/2. 6 Aug 1843 Fulton co. Illinois Dr.
John Scott [no known relation] b. 1790 Vermont d. 1883 Prarie
City, McDonough co. Ill.). I don't know if Hannah and Jane M. might
somehow be the same person, or if there were two different William C. Scotts
of Crawford county Indiana around 1820, or if Hannah died early and William
married Jane so soon after that Levi never knew his actual mother.
There's also this possibility- there is a marriage record of a William
Scott and Jane Knight or Wright, married 23 Nov 1828 in Shelby co. Kentucky.
William & Jane had at least 9 children:
-
Levi Thompson b. 8 May 1816 (family bible) or 3 Apr (biography)
1816, Crawford co. Ind. d. 20 Apr 1896 New Sharon, Mahaska co. Iowa
m. 14 Mar 1839 Peoria co. Ill. Nancy Doyle/Doyel b. 24 Dec 1818 Shelbyville,
Shelby co. Ky. A bible seemingly owned by Levi lists his birth date
as well as his wife and son's birthdates, but the first entry is "James
Scott 4/12/1793". The only record I have found of a James Scott
who was born in April 1793 is James Keith Scott.

16 Aug 1817 (by John Glenn, father of Samuel P. Glenn and Thomas
M. Glenn) Orange co. Ind. Henry Buckner b. 1770-5 Kentucky?
d. after 1830, probably in Dubois co. Indiana, where they were living in
1830. What happened to Elizabeth next is not known; there is a marriage
record for an Elizabeth Buckner m. Allen Twitty in March 1836, Crawford
county Indiana, but nothing else (no sign of him in the 1840 census).
There is also a marriage record of Allen Twitty marrying Betsey Gears on
28 Oct 1841 in Pike co. Indiana. A
poster on Ancestry.com mentions an Allen Twitty born about 20 Mar 1839
"in Indiana"- could he be the son of of Allen & Elizabeth Scott Buckner
Twitty, and Elizabeth died shortly thereafter, and Allen Twitty remarried
Betsey Gears? Elizabeth and Henry had at least 5 children.
