JOHN W. SCOTT  s/o Andrew & Anna Longest Scott b. 3 Jun 1824 Sangamon co. Ill. d. 22 July 1900 Jacksonville, Morgan co. Ill. (buried Sangamon county)  m. 7 Sept 1848 Sangamon co. Ill. Martha Yates ("Aunt Patsy"), d/o Henry & Millicent Coleman Yates  b. 9 July 1823 Warsaw, Gallatin co. Ky. d. 22 Nov 1916 New Berlin, Sangamon co. Ill.; they lived in Berlin, Sangamon co. Ill. most of their lives.  Martha's brother was Richard Yates Sr., governor of Illinois during the Civil War; their father Henry Yates laid out the first plat of the town of Berlin, Illinois in 1836.  John & Martha had at least 9 children (another name, June, has popped up for a name of a child of this family, with no data). but only 4 were living in 1900:

• Louisa (twin) - b. 17 Oct 1856 d. 1943 m. 17 Jun 1885 Sangamon co. Ill.  Marcus Browning Robertson s/o William Beckwith & Anna Davis Browning Robertson  b. 31 Jan 1857 d. 1935; they had 6 or 7 children
• Richard Yates "Dick"- b. 10 Mar 1859 Berlin, Sangamon co. Ill. d. 24 Nov 1898  m. 27 Jan 1890 Anna Immer; 4 children
• John Winfield- b. 20 July 1861 Berlin, Sangamon co. Ill.  d. 28 July 1939  Springfield, Sangamon co. Ill.   m/1. 26 Dec 1889 Sangamon co. Ill.  Elizabeth J. Ingalls b. 1865  d. 1898, 2 children; m/2. ca. 1905  Dorothy/Doyle _____ b. 1881/2 Illinois; at least 6 children.  In the 1880 census, John was listed in the column for "maimed, crippled, bedridden, or otherwise disabled", but as having attended school in the previous year.  The "sickness or disability" was "white swelling", AKA tuberculosis of the bone or joints.
