From a footnote in Annals of Iowa, April, 1922- William Simpson
was a Scotchman, quite an original character and considered a wonderful
teacher. It is said he could have several classes on the floor reciting
at the same time and detect any error made. He was studying medicine
and was betrothed to one of the older Scott girls, who was broken-hearted
at his untimely death at Lexington, Kentucky, April 9, 1842.
Since her sisters Dorinda, Lucinda,
and Malinda were far too young, her sisters
Nancy
and Elizabeth A. were both married in the
1830's, and Anna did not marry until age 38, this almost certainly refers
to Anna.
Yes, Anna's
middle name was Creighton (or Crayton), proving again that John Wilson
Scott's mother's maiden name was Creighton, not Wilson.
Robert & Anna also adopted a boy, Ralph Waldo Gilmer, born 7 May
1885 Iowa, m. 3 Spt 1908 Fairfield, Jefferson co. Iowa Marie Ethel
